As I travel, my eye is drawn to structures and places that have been neglected and left to deteriorate under the sun and their own weight; old water towers, houses, and barns from past generations that no longer have a use. As time passes and our memories fade, I try to recall a place I visited once, the feeling of scraping a knee on the sidewalk or the certain pattern of the ceiling of my bedroom. If I could capture these neglected places and objects, my paintings would be a small collection of remnants from these journeys.
I assemble wood that is left at the side of the road, waiting to be hauled away, to use as my canvases. I am drawn to wood that has endured time and weather, with dry cracking paint and oil stains. These findings tend to be plywood scraps piled at a construction site or salvaged from a house. With these materials, I create sections of these weathered outdated structures and expanse.
